A Message from Our Chairman
To our Members and Theatre Goers
Following postponement from May 2020, unfortunately we are now not going to be able to go ahead with Legally Blonde as hoped in May 2021. As a committee our job is to act in the best interest of BrassNeck Theatre and, after some challenging conversations, we realise that there is too much uncertainty to allow us to proceed with the show.
The main reasons for this fall into three important categories:
Health and Safety
Covid-19 is still something that needs to be managed in all our lives at the moment, and while we have everything crossed that the situation will improve soon, the reality is that we cannot be sure when we will be able to rehearse, stage and perform a show to a full house whilst keeping the risks at an acceptable level.
Practicalities
The sheer practicalities of trying to prepare for a show with the current regulations in place are simply too great to overcome. We know that May seems a long time away but it takes 6-9 months to properly plan and lay the foundations for a show and to pull all the moving parts together. We feel that we have to make this difficult decision now rather than run the risk of proceeding and having to pull the plug later on.
Finance
We also have to be mindful of our financial situation. It costs in the region of £40,000 to produce a BrassNeck show to the standard and professionalism that adheres to our values. Even when we perform to our usual audiences, it is extremely difficult to get anywhere near break-even point. If we are only able to sell a reduced number of tickets to permit “socially distanced “audiences, it simply would not be financially viable.
2020 has been a very difficult year in lots of ways but it also marks 10 years since BrassNeck was formed. As soon as we can, we will be celebrating that fact. We know that many people have missed live theatre as much as we have but we want to reassure you that BrassNeck Theatre is determined to be back and we are looking forward to delivering top quality theatre which we have become known for.
On behalf of BrassNeck Theatre I wish you all the best in these uncertain times.
