About Us
“To produce professional theatrical experiences, challenge conventions and push the boundaries of our venues and our people.”
Professional Theatrical Experiences
From its inception in 2010, BrassNeck Theatre has built a reputation for producing high-quality, professional standard productions, staging a wide variety of plays and musicals to not only challenge themselves but also our local audiences.
BrassNeck Theatre was formed by the merger of two of West Yorkshire’s most successful amateur theatre companies, The Grove and Rawdon Theatre Company and Stampede Theatre Company. Both companies had their own history of producing difficult musicals to a high standard, with productions including The Buddy Holly Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Seussical the Musical, We Will Rock You and Sweeney Todd to name but a few. Both also have a history of challenging local audiences; the productions of Bat Boy and Spend Spend Spend in particular included very controversial material.
BrassNeck Theatre have built and added to this reputation; staging a range of productions in our opening years including Our House, The Producers, Bouncers & Shakers, RENT and a new staging of the popular musical Fiddler on the Roof.
“BrassNeck Theatre may be amateur in status but they are truly professional to the core in everything they do.” John Burland
Challenge Conventions
At BrassNeck Theatre we are not afraid to tackle material other Theatre Companies would avoid. Having staged John Godbers’ Bouncers and Shakers, we followed this with the hit musical RENT, the first time it was performed at Yeadon Town Hall. Despite dealing with issues such as homosexuality and drug abuse, the musical had rave reviews and glowing feedback from audience members. In 2013 we were invited to be one of the first amateur theatre companies to perform the controversial but highly popular Avenue Q, which was very well received by audiences and reviewers.
“BrassNeck Theatre carries on a fine reputation and is building on that with some outstanding shows” Rachel O’Connor
Push the Boundaries of our Venues and People
The majority of our productions have been staged at Yeadon Town Hall in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Whilst an excellent venue, this does not have the top class facilities of a fully functioning theatre. We pride ourselves in using the space in an inventive and innovative fashion in order produce professional shows. Using the Town Hall also allows us to reach a local audience, and we have built up a loyal following that enjoy our brand of theatre.
At BrassNeck Theatre we have three core values, which we expect all of our members to work towards:
- Being committed to and taking pride in BrassNeck Theatre
- Upholding professional standards
- Working together for the benefit of the company
We strive to develop and get the best out of every one of our members, while maintaining a fun atmosphere during the rehearsal period. Our social team work all year round to stage events, which create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere within cast and crew which only adds to the quality of stage productions.
At the core of this, BrassNeck Theatre is a team. We welcome any new members to audition for a new show, or to be part of our exceptional backstage crew. We often design and build our own sets (again often praised by local media), have a live band for every musical, and have a dedicated lighting team, all of which create BrassNeck Theatre’s professional theatrical experience.
