Wedding bells are set to ring at Yeadon Town Hall as BrassNeck Theatre get ready for their next musical offering, The Wedding Singer. Based on the cult film of the same name starring Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore and set in the same mid 1980’s era, The Wedding Singer tells the story of Robbie Hart, wannabe rock star and New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. Robbie is the life of the party until his fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own.
Although the film is set to a soundtrack of 80’s classics, the stage version is far from being a jukebox musical, as Director Royston Bayfield explains. “It’s true that people who love the film will love the musical, which follows the same plot, but that does not mean that the music takes care of the show. This production is shaping up to be one of the most challenging projects BrassNeck have taken on, particularly with the constraints of Yeadon Town Hall. The cast, as ever, have been working very hard but there has been much work done behind the scenes by our stage crew, wardrobe and props departments to make sure that the standard our audiences have come to expect is not compromised. I’m very excited about how the show is coming along already and I’m confident that it will leave audiences wanting more.”
Filled with humour, powerful 1980’s style musical numbers and the inevitable romance, The Wedding Singer is a sure-fire hit for all those who lived through the 80’s and for those who missed out!
The Wedding Singer runs at Yeadon Town Hall from 13 – 17 May 2014, 7:30 pm nightly. Tickets have, unsurprisingly, been selling well with the Friday & Saturday night performances already almost sold out and so people are being encouraged to book for earlier in the week. Bookings can be made online or by telephone on 0113 2505011.
